The scholarship which will provide full funding that covers tuition fees, accommodation, living stipends as well as a round-trip airfare ticket aims to bring Chinese and international students to study, live, and learn together.
The Peking University scholarship allows students from every nook and corner of the world to study in China for free. This is evident from the fact that 80% of Yenching Academy students are international students.

The Yenching Academy offers a highly customizable Master’s program in China studies for English speakers with varied levels of Chinese language competency. At the core of the program lies its emphasis on interdisciplinarity and the value it assigns to thinking about China; past, present and future – from both Chinese and international perspectives.
It also aims to push the study of China beyond the boundaries of traditionally defined humanities and social science disciplines, and is designed to incorporate the experiences and intellectual training of its diverse student body.
Scholars are allowed flexibility in the design of their study programs and can choose courses from any of six research areas, one of which they will choose for their theses.
A wide range of electives offered by the Academy and other Peking University schools and departments supplements core courses.Â
2025 Yenching Academy Scholarship Requirements
All candidates applying for the Yenching Academy Scholarship must satisfy the following requirements;
Posses a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field, or is currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and is on track to graduate no later than August 31, 2025,*;
Have an outstanding academic record;
Have a strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China;
Can boast of a record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential;
Can demonstrate English proficiency.

Yenching Academy Scholarship in China Benefits and Timeline
- The duration of the Yenching Academy China Scholarship is 2 years.
- The fellowship covers the full tuition fee.
- The fellows will be given accommodation at the Yenching Academy. They will be given a two-bed suite and which will have a common bathroom shared by two persons of the same gender.
- The fellow will receive medical insurance.
- A monthly stipend will be given.
- One round-trip travel allowance will be given.
- Note: The benefits are for the first year. In order to continue the benefits, the fellows have to maintain their good academic standing.
Required Documents for Yenching Academy Scholarship in China
Candidates may apply through Yenching Academy’s online application portal. Each applicant will create an account on the Yenching Academy admissions portal and submit the following materials in English:
Completed online application form;
Personal statement (750 words or less);
Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words, excluding citations);
Curriculum Vitae;
Official transcript(s);
Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment;
Two academic letters of recommendation;
