British Council GREAT Scholarship Details

GREAT Scholarships offer students from 18 countries the opportunity to have £10,000 towards their tuition fees for a wide range of one-year taught postgraduate courses.

In the 2026-27 academic year, over 200 scholarships are offered by over 70 universities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Each scholarship is jointly funded by the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council with participating UK higher education institutions. 

British Council GREAT Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for this British Council GREAT Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: Be a citizen of an eligible country.
  • Educational Background: Possess an undergraduate degree, showcase motivation, and exhibit a genuine interest in the proposed subject area.
  • Language Proficiency: Meet the English language requirements of the UK Higher Education Institution (HEI).
  • Engagement: Establish engagement with the UK as a scholar, both personally and academically.
  • Networking: Willingness to attend a networking event with all UK-based GREAT scholars to discuss experiences and share perceptions of studying in the UK.
  • Ambassadorial Role: Be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and the HEI, acting as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships.
  • Alumni Commitment: As an alumnus of the GREAT Scholarships, be willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about your experience of studying in the UK.
