The Fund Internship Program (FIP) offers PhD students in economics an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the work of one of the world’s leading international financial institutions.

As a Fund intern, you’ll apply your economic research skills to real-world policy questions that matter to the IMF’s 191 member countries. You’ll work alongside experienced IMF economists, gain hands-on research experience, strengthen your analytical skills, and build a professional network in a uniquely international environment. IMF Fund Internship Benefits

• Selected applicants will undertake a 10–12-week paid internship between June and September 2026.
• The in-person internship will be located at the IMF headquarters in Washington DC.

International Monetary Fund Internship Program Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 International Monetary Fund Internship Program, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

For Master’s Students:

• Be in the process of completing a Master’s degree in macroeconomics or a related field.
• Be younger than 28 years at the internship’s onset.
• Display fluency in English, both in writing and speaking.
• Exhibit strong analytical, quantitative, and computing capabilities.

For PhD Students:

• Be progressing towards the final one to two years of a PhD in macroeconomics or a related area.
• Maintain student status during the internship (i.e., resume PhD studies post-internship).
• Be younger than 32 years at the start of the internship.
• Exhibit fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Demonstrate robust analytical abilities, quantitative proficiency, and computer skills.
