The Beijing Government Scholarships aim to cover the tuition fees of international students who are studying or intend to study in Beijing.
The scholarship is applicable to undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and undergraduate preparatory studies.

Beijing Government Scholarships Details
In a significant move, the Beijing Government is now offering scholarships aimed at students from international and developing countries.
These scholarships are available for those pursuing Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees for the year 2024 and will continue on an annual basis.
The Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) is an initiative by the Beijing Municipal Government.Â
The International Cooperation and Exchange Office of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Educations administers this program, overseeing its establishment, review, and daily management.
Interested international students must submit relevant documents to their chosen Beijing universities by the end of February each year.
Beijing Government Scholarships Requirements
To be eligible for the undergraduate and postgraduate Beijing Government Scholarships, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
Nationality and Health: Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
Educational Background and Age Limit:
- Undergraduate applicants: Must have completed high school and be under 30 years old.
- Masters applicants: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old.
- Doctoral applicants: Must possess a Master’s degree and be under 40 years old.
- Advanced studies applicants: Should have an undergraduate degree or be in their second university year, and be under 50 years old.
- Language study applicants: Must have a high school diploma and be under 60 years old.
- Visiting scholars: Should hold at least a Masters degree, or an associate professorship, and be under 50 years old.
Language Proficiency: Based on the requirements of the chosen academic program and set by the respective institution.
Exclusion for Recipients of Other Scholarships: Those already receiving financial aid from other Chinese government programs or organizations/agencies are not eligible for this scholarship.

Beijing Government Scholarships Benefits and Timeline
The scholarship covers only tuition fees, with varying amounts based on academic level:
- Doctoral degree: 40,000 RMB/year
- Masters degree: 30,000 RMB/year
- Bachelor degree: 20,000 RMB/year
- Senior training/language program: 10,000 RMB/year
- Exchange students or those contributing to international education in Beijing: 5,000 RMB/year
Duration of Scholarships:
- Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral Degrees: up to 4 years.
- Chinese language training or advanced studies: up to 1 year.
- Specialized training for scholars and international students: up to 1 year.
- Exchange students or exceptional contributors to international education: up to 1 year.
Required Documents
While applying for the 2024 Beijing Government Scholarships, you will be required to submit the following documents;
- Application Form for Beijing Government Scholarship (Applicants shall obtain the form from the Higher Education Institutions or download the form from the website of the targeted HEIs).Â
- Notarized highest diploma and transcripts.Â
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form should be provided if the duration of study is six months or above.Â
- Study plan (no less than 400 words) or research plan (no less than 800 words) in Chinese or English should be submitted for degree or research students.Â
- Applicants for music and art are requested to submit the applicants’ own works according to the requirements of the target HEIs.Â
- Applicants under 18 should provide legal documents of their legal guardians in China.Â
- Please note that application documents will NOT be returned.
Application Procedure
To apply,
- you should submit your application for admission to the qualified universities in Beijing.
- The universities are to access your application and forward their decisions to the scholarship host.
These institutions will then send the Scholarship Admission Notice, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the candidates three months before the study begins.
The applications will be regarded as invalid and will not be accepted if applicants fail to meet the eligibility or the application materials are incomplete.
The host institutions will make a yearly review on the scholarship students’ performances.
If the scholarship students violate the law of China or regulations of the host institutions, or the rules of BGS, the scholarship will be terminated.
