Shanghai Government Scholarship Details

Administered by East China Normal University, the Shanghai Government Scholarship aims to attract talented individuals from around the world to undertake full-time undergraduate programs.

This prestigious scholarship underscores China’s commitment to international education and cultural exchange, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment at ECNU.

Shanghai Government Scholarship Benefits

Shanghai Government Scholarships for Foreign Students are divided into two categories: A and B.

Type A (Full scholarship)

  • Exempt from tuition fee. 
  • Provide accommodation on campus: economic double room (public restroom).
  • If you choose to live off-campus and get approval from the university, off-campus living allowance is 700 RMB/month/person. 
  • Living allowance: 2500 RMB/month.
  • Provide comprehensive medical care insurance for International Students: 800 RMB/person/year.

Type B (Partial scholarship)

    • Exempt from tuition fee. 
    • Provide comprehensive medical care insurance for International Students: 800 RMB/person/year.

  • For students who receive scholarships, the school will guide them through relevant procedures such as visa, enrollment and registration.

  • In principle, scholarship students will be arranged by the school to live in student dormitories in the first year.

Available Programmes for Shanghai Government Scholarship

For the 2023/24 academic session, the Shanghai Government Scholarship will accept applications to the following programmes;

  • The first category includes: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, and management;
  • The second category includes: science, engineering, and agriculture; the third category includes: medicine and art.

Shanghai Government Scholarships Requirements

To be eligible for the undergraduate and Shanghai Government Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Applicants must be of foreign nationality and in good health.

  • Applicant’s academic qualifications and age requirements:

    • Applicants for undergraduate studies must have graduated from high school and be no more than 25 years old;

  • Students applying for undergraduate preparatory courses should have a high school degree or above, obtain a pre-admission notice from the undergraduate admission institution, and be no more than 23 years old.
  • Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the major applied for.
  • Applicants must meet the Chinese language proficiency requirements of the major applied.
  • Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance.
