DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Details
The “In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme,” funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), targets university staff while also addressing the public sector’s need for academically trained personnel.
The scholarships aim at graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa, encouraging applications for Master’s or Ph.D. courses within their home country (In-Country scholarships) or another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region scholarships).
Women and applicants from underprivileged regions are particularly encouraged to participate.

West and Central Africa Programs for 2024:
- Benin – University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC): Statistics (Major in Biostatistics) for Master’s; Agronomic Sciences (Major in Biometry) for Ph.D.
- Cameroon – University of Dschang: Ph.D. in Parasitology and Pharmacology.
- Ghana – University of Ghana: Master’s in Seed Science and Technology; Molecular Cell Biology of Infectious Diseases. Ph.D. in Development Studies.
- Nigeria – Federal University of Technology and Benue State University: Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Food Chemistry.
Southern Africa Programs for 2024:
- Botswana – Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST): Master’s in Physics (by Research).
- Malawi – Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS): Master’s in Environmental Health.
Eastern Africa Programs for 2024:

- Malawi: Master’s in Aquaculture and Fisheries.
