The MTN Foundation has officially announced the successful selection and award of scholarships to 368 distinguished Nigerian students.

The recipients, drawn from public tertiary institutions nationwide, were celebrated at the 2025 Scholarship Award and Alumni Induction Ceremony held in Abuja.

About the MTN Scholarship Award

The MTN Scholarship is one of Nigeria’s most prestigious private sector awards. The annual value of ₦300,000 is designed to cover tuition, books, and living stipends for the academic year.

A crucial feature of the award is its renewability: students will receive the grant annually until graduation, provided they maintain the required minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Since its inception over 14 years ago, the MTN Foundation Scholarship Programme has invested over ₦3.2 billion and supported approximately 14,700 Nigerians, creating a significant pipeline of skilled professionals across various sectors.

Three Categories of the MTN Scholarship Programme

The MTN Scholarship awardees were selected from three distinct categories:

  1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS): Targets high-performing students in Science and Technology-related courses in public tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

  2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS): Promotes inclusion by supporting visually impaired students in public tertiary institutions, regardless of their course of study.

  3. Top 10 UTME Scholarship: An automatic award for the top 10 highest-scoring candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the nation.

Selection Process for MTN Scholarships

The selection for the MTN Foundation Scholarship is a multi-stage, highly competitive, and transparent process managed by the Foundation and Dragnet Solutions for aptitude testing.

  • Stage 1: Application Screening

The MTN Scholarship 2025 portal receives thousands of applications. Initial screening filters candidates based on meeting the core eligibility requirements.

  • Stage 2: Aptitude Test Invitation

Shortlisted candidates, whose details have been verified, are invited via email and SMS to write a mandatory Computer-Based Test (CBT), often administered on the Dragnet Solutions platform.

  • Stage 3: Aptitude Test Performance

Candidates are ranked based on their performance in the aptitude test. This stage significantly cuts down the number of candidates.

  • Stage 4: Verification and Final Shortlist

The high-scoring candidates are invited for a physical/virtual verification of their documents (Transcripts, Student ID, Admission Letter, etc.).

  • MTN Yellopreneur: A major initiative designed to empower female entrepreneurs through capacity building and access to financial grants.

  • ICT and Business Skills: Programs that build the capacity of youths aged 18 to 35 in digital and ICT skills, enhancing employability.

  • MTN MUSON Music Scholars Program: An initiative that provides scholarships for musically talented youth to study at the prestigious Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON).

  • Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YEDP): Specifically targets MTN Scholarship Alumni to enhance their entrepreneurial and business skills.
