About The IOA Memorial Scholarship

Prof. Akinyele started as an indigent student and was a first generation university graduate, along with his siblings. Isaac was a big believer in education, and tried to help as many people as possible. Nutrition is an essential part of sustainable development, yet, cannot be divorced from Agriculture, the base for food systems. Given this integration, this scholarship will be established in his name to support indigent students studying either Nutrition or Agriculture in public universities in Nigeria. These scholarships will be based on merit and need.  In honor of the 10th year anniversary of his demise, 10 scholars will be selected from those who submit a complete application, including, the required documentation and essays. Applicants are also required to enroll in a free nutrition leadership course and respond to questions. 

IOA Memorial Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the undergraduate IOA Memorial Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Citizenship: Open to Nigerian citizens enrolled in federal or state-owned universities in Nigeria.
  • Field of Study: Must be studying Nutrition or Agriculture.
  • Academic Level: Currently in the second or third year of full-time undergraduate study.
  • Minimum CGPA: Maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in a 5-grade system.

Required Documents

While applying for the 2024 IOA Memorial Scholarships, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • Essays Submission:

    • 1st Essay: Why I am qualified for this scholarship. Max 300 words.
    • Enroll in the course: Evolving Leaders in Nutrition. https://edu.nutritionintl.org/
    • 2nd Essay: Provide a summary of what you learned from this course, how you think ethical leadership can be practiced in Nigeria and share your action plan.
    • 3rd Essay: How do you imagine/expect food systems pathways to transform the nutritional status of vulnerable population in the next ten years? What is the role of Generative AI? Max 250 words
  • Application Package:
      • Completed application forms.
      • Current transcripts.
      • Personal references: Include one from a former employer or current professor and a personal/character reference.
