Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship 2027–2029: Fully Funded in Europe
The Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship 2027–2029 is an international postgraduate scholarship opportunity for outstanding graduates and aspiring media professionals who wish to pursue a master’s degree in Journalism, Media and Globalisation at leading European universities.
The scholarship is offered through the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation, popularly known as Mundus Journalism. It is a two-year international master’s programme that combines academic study, journalism research, media analysis, and international learning experiences.
The programme is designed for candidates interested in understanding the changing role of journalism in a globalised world. Students explore issues such as international communication, media systems, political communication, global news production, journalism ethics, and the relationship between media and society.
One of the programme’s major attractions is its international study structure. Students begin their studies in Denmark before progressing to a second-year specialisation at a partner university in another European country (UK, Germany, Netherlands, or Czech Republic). This gives participants the opportunity to experience different academic environments, media systems, and cultural perspectives.
For the 2027–2029 intake, the programme expects to award approximately 10–15 Erasmus Mundus Scholarships to outstanding applicants from different countries. Successful scholarship recipients will receive a full tuition-fee waiver, a monthly allowance of €1,400 for up to 24 months, and health and liability insurance.
Applications are open to candidates of all nationalities who meet the academic, professional, and English-language requirements. Interested applicants should note that the scholarship is highly competitive and requires documented journalism experience, making it important to prepare a strong application.
Applications for the competition are open from now until November 22, 2026. In this post, we will provide you with the details, the requirements, and the application procedure on how to submit your application successfully.

About the Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation Programme
The Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalisation is a two-year international master’s degree delivered by a consortium of European universities.
The programme focuses on the academic and analytical study of journalism and media in a global context. Rather than providing only basic journalism training, it develops students’ ability to examine journalism as a social, political, cultural, and professional institution.
Students gain knowledge of international media systems, globalisation, journalism research, communication, and the challenges facing contemporary journalism.
The programme has an international mobility structure. The first semester takes place in Aarhus, Denmark, and students continue their studies through the programme’s partner-university arrangements before completing a second-year specialisation.
The consortium’s university network includes institutions in cities such as Aarhus, Amsterdam, London, Munich, and Prague. The available specialisation and mobility arrangements should be checked on the official programme website before selecting a study pathway.

Fisayo Soyombo Inter-Varsity Essay Competition 2026 Requirements
To qualify for admission and consideration for the Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship 2027–2029, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
1. Academic Qualification
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification based on at least three years of full-time study.
The degree must be in a relevant subject and must be accepted by Aarhus University and the university selected for the second-year specialisation.
Degrees in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are generally considered relevant. Applicants from other academic backgrounds may also be considered if their qualifications are judged relevant and adequate by the consortium.
Candidates who have not completed their bachelor’s degree at the time of application may still apply. However, they must provide evidence of completing the degree by 1 August 2027.
2. Academic Performance
Applicants are expected to have an above-average bachelor’s degree or GPA. Academic merit is an important part of the selection process.
The programme does not publish one universal minimum CGPA for all applicants. Candidates should therefore demonstrate strong academic performance through their transcripts and academic records.
3. Journalism Experience
Applicants must have at least three months of full-time journalism experience.
This is an important admission requirement because the programme is designed for candidates who already have some practical understanding of journalism and media work.
Relevant experience may include:
- Working as a journalist for a newspaper, magazine, television station, radio station, or online media organisation.
- Journalism-related internships.
- Writing and producing published media content.
- Other professional or unpaid journalism activities that demonstrate the required level of practical experience.
Applicants must provide documentation confirming their journalism experience. Internship and unpaid experience may be considered if the work involved genuine journalistic activities.
4. English Language Proficiency
The programme is taught entirely in English. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency equivalent to CEFR C1 level or above, unless they qualify for an exemption under the rules of their selected second-year university.
Accepted tests and minimum scores vary by specialisation. For example, the University of Amsterdam specialisation requires IELTS Academic with an overall score of 7.0 and at least 6.5 in each component, or the specified TOEFL or Cambridge qualifications.
Applicants should check the exact English-language requirements for their preferred second-year specialisation before registering for a test.
5. Nationality
The Erasmus Mundus Journalism Scholarship is open to applicants of all nationalities. International applicants, including candidates from Nigeria and other African countries, are welcome to apply if they meet the programme requirements.
6. Previous Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
Applicants who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship are not eligible for another Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
Candidates who have already completed a master’s degree of two years or more following a three-year bachelor’s degree are also not eligible for this scholarship. However, they may still apply for admission as self-funded students.
Participating Universities and Study Locations
Mundus Journalism is delivered through a university consortium. Students undertake their studies in more than one country as part of the programme’s international mobility requirements.
The programme is associated with the following universities and study locations:
- Aarhus University – Aarhus, Denmark.
- University of Amsterdam – Amsterdam, Netherlands.
- City St George’s, University of London – London, United Kingdom.
- Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) – Munich, Germany.
- Charles University – Prague, Czech Republic.
The first semester in Aarhus, Denmark, is compulsory. Students then follow the programme’s mobility arrangements and complete their second-year specialisation at their selected host university.
Applicants must select their preferred second-year specialisation during the application process. This selection is binding after final submission, so candidates should review the available specialisations and their language requirements carefully.
