WMI Scholarship Details
The Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) is a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA.
WMI works to create social change through education and community building by providing bright young people in the developing world with student scholarships and skills training, building a network of grassroots leaders who are catalyzing community transformation.
Each year WMI Scholarship provides support to students as they pursue various educational objectives.
Support is provided for post-secondary school (university, polytechnic, trade school). Financial support is primarily to cover tuition and school fees and directly related expenses including books and supplies.
The scholarship awards are determined by volunteer reviewers and the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors and are awarded once a year on August 1.
Wells Mountain Inititive WMI Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the undergraduate WMI Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
WMI seeks individuals who align with their mission of creating positive change through education. The ideal candidate:
- Have completed secondary education with excellent grades.
- Be aged 35 or under by March 1, 2024.
- Pursuing their first bachelor’s degree or diploma.
- Will be studying in their home country or another developing country.
- Plans to contribute to their home country’s growth post-graduation.
- Demonstrates commitment to community service and volunteering.

- Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study; however, recipients must maintain good grades, participate in community service and
- meet WMI deadlines for submitting an official copy of school/course grades, completing the semester report, and validation of community service hours.
- The scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance and/or dishonesty.
Available Programmes
For the 2024/25 academic session, the Wells Mountain Initiative WMI Scholarship will accept applications to all accredited programmes pursuable in recognized universities of candidates home country.

Financial support of the WMI Scholarship is primarily to cover tuition and school fees and directly related expenses including books and supplies.
Required Documents
While applying for the 2024 WMI Scholarships, you will be required to submit the following documents;
- Grade transcripts from schools attended
- National exam results if applicable
- Tuition fees structure from your university (can provide from website if not accepted yet)
- 500 – 1000 word personal statement
- 500 – 1000 word essay question
- Essay prompt:Â Â
- If you were awarded $1500 to support a service project to help your community, what issue would you address?
- Why is this a current or continuing issue within your community? Why is this issue important to you?
- Who would benefit and what would be the impact?
- How would you measure the success of the activity?
- Please provide a detailed budget in USD for all expenses. Note: this is a hypothetical situation and should not be considered a request for funding

Application Procedure
There are two ways to apply: Online, or by mailing in a completed application packet to our office.
- APPLYING ONLINE:Â You will be redirected to a portal where you will be asked to create a free account (username and password), fill out information and upload documents.
- We strongly suggest that you apply online as it will provide you with the opportunity to save your work and return multiple times. You will also guarantee that your application, once submitted online, will be received and reviewed.
- MAIL-IN:Â You will need to print the 2024 application form below (available December 1, 2023)Â and it is your responsibility to clearly complete it and attach all required supporting documents before sending it to us.
- Applications must be received by March 1, 2024 in our office. Applications that arrive after March 1, 2024 will not be reviewed.
- This means that you must allow at least three weeks to mail your application to us from abroad.
- Only send one completed application. Incomplete or additional mailings with supporting documents will be discarded.
- We highly encourage applicants to apply online to ensure the delivery of their completed application.
- DO NOT email us completed applications with multiple attachments; we do not accept applications sent via email.
