University of Macau Postgraduate Scholarships 2027 Details

The University of Macau (UM) is now accepting applications for its doctoral, master’s, and postgraduate certificate programmes for the 2027/2028 academic year.

UM accepts application into diversify programs that support Macao’s economic diversification and meet industry needs.

The university offers a range of scholarships and financial aid for postgraduate students. These include the UM PhD Scholarship, the UM PhD Teaching Research Assistant, the International Student Scholarship, and the University of Macau Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programmes.

University of Macau Scholarships Benefits

The University of Macau offers several scholarships and forms of financial aid for postgraduate students, including;

UM PhD Scholarship

• UMPS provides each awardee with a monthly stipend of MOP20,000 for a period up to 4 years.
• Tuition fees will be offset by the monthly stipend before stipend disbursement.

UM PhD Teaching Research Assistant

• UMTRA-Type A provides each eligible TRA with a starting monthly stipend of MOP12,500 for a period up to 4 years.
• UMTRA-Type B provides each eligible TRA with a monthly stipend that is equivalent to the monthly average of the programme full tuition fees during the normative study period.
• Tuition fees will be offset by the monthly stipend before stipend disbursement.

International Student Scholarship

• UMTRA-Type A provides each eligible TRA with a starting monthly stipend of MOP12,500 for a period up to 4 years.
• UMTRA-Type B provides each eligible TRA with a monthly stipend that is equivalent to the monthly average of the programme full tuition fees during the normative study period.
• Tuition fees will be offset by the monthly stipend before stipend disbursement.

University of Macau Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programmes.

• Scholarship recipients of master’s degree programmes will receive a one-off scholarship in their first year of study.
• The scholarship is one-off and students can only receive once throughout their entire study period of the programme.
• It is also compatible with other types of scholarships, academic awards and allowances offered by the UM.

University of Macau Postgraduate Scholarships Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 UM Postgraduate Programmes, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

Master’s Degree Programmes

• An applicant of a Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau.
• An applicant may also be required to possess other knowledge or professional experience.
• Applicants should have achieved the equivalent* of an overall result of Grade C+ or better in the Bachelor’s degree studies. (Except for the Faculty of Law)
• The equivalent means 2.3 on the 4.0 GPA scale, 14 on the 20-point scale or 70 out of 100.

Phd Programmes

• Possess a Master’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau.
• For Direct entry student (for Bachelor’s Degree Holders) possess a Bachelor’s degree with outstanding performance and have demonstrated strong research ability.
• Applicants who received their Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from a university where the medium of instruction was not English are required to provide any of the following as proof of English proficiency:
  • Obtained a TOEFL* score of 550 (paper-based examination) / 80 (Internet-based examination) or above or,
  • An IELTS* overall score of 6.0 or above with no sub-score lower than 5.5 or,
  • College English Test (CET) score is acceptable to some academic units, please visit corresponding website of each academic unit for details.
