The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a limited number of scholarships to highly qualified applicants. The current call for applications and necessary application documents for the scholarship for an EPOS study programme can be found on the DAAD’s website.

The programmes ISATEC and Marine Biology have been merged to form a single MSc programme with two study profiles. From the winter semester 2020/21 on, ISATEC is a study profile in the MSc programme Marine Biology!

The application therefore has to be for Marine Biology (choose the subject “Marine Biology DAAD” in the online application portal, if you want to apply for ISATEC in combination with a DAAD scholarship from the “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” programme).

What Is ISATEC?

ISATEC stands for International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology.

It was originally established at the University of Bremen in collaboration with the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT).

Today, ISATEC is a study profile within the University’s M.Sc. Marine Biology programme.

The programme prepares students for research and practical work related to:

  • Tropical aquatic ecosystems
  • Marine and freshwater ecology
  • Conservation
  • Resource management
  • Sustainable use of aquatic resources
  • Environmental management
  • Development-related challenges involving aquatic ecosystems

The programme is taught in English and follows the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

Students can also benefit from collaboration with research institutions including the:

  • Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research
  • Alfred Wegener Institute
  • Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
  • Thünen Institute

The programme therefore provides an interdisciplinary environment connecting university teaching with marine and aquatic research.
