The United Nations University and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are jointly sponsoring a fully funded Masters program for applicants from developing countries.

The entirety of the costs of your tuition, accommodation, €11,904 in living expenses, and comprehensive medical insurance during the corresponding academic period are covered by the United Nationa University DAAD scholarship.

United Nations University Scholarships, Joint Master’s Programme is part of a selected group of international postgraduate programmes that benefits from the EPOS funding scheme offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The United Nations University (UNU) Scholarship joint M.Sc. programme provides postgraduate students with detailed knowledge, critical understanding, strategies and the tools required to take an interdisciplinary approach towards environmental risks and human security.

It is the third study programme in Bonn to be admitted to the DAAD funding scheme, in addition to the ZEF Doctoral Studies programme and the ARTS study programme offered by the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bonn.

The United Nations University DAAD Scholarship will cover the full costs of the following for its beneficiaries;

  • Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 992 euros for graduates or 1,300 euros (1,400 euros beginning with February 2026) for doctoral candidates
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding
  • Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:
  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family

To be considered for the UNU DAAD Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Being a candidate from a “Developing Country” (according to the classification of the DAAD)
  • Having at least two years of practical work experience (e.g. with an NGO, GO, or the private sector) in a field related to the study programme
  • Having graduated with the Bachelor no longer than five years ago
  • Having completed no other Master in a similar field of studies
  • Aiming at a career as a practitioner in a field related to the programme of study
