Details of Rochester International Student Summer Research Program

The Rochester International Student Summer Research Program is meant for outstanding students at non-US institutions who intend to enter a PhD program in Chemistry in the United States.

The program is designed to provide promising undergraduate and master’s students in chemistry from all over the world the opportunity to conduct first-class research at the University of Rochester.

You will be doing research full-time under the supervision of a faculty member of the chemistry department. Your specific project will depend on the group that you are assigned to.

Rochester International Student Summer Research Program Benefits

Participants in the program will receive

  • a weekly stipend to cover living expenses,
  • on-campus accommodation,
  • health insurance, 
  • $1,250 toward travel costs.

The program also covers associated student registration and tuition fees.

The institution will assist you in securing a US Visa to conduct research at the University of Rochester.

University of Rochester Summer Research Program Requirements

To be eligible for the undergraduate University of Rochester Summer Research Program, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Be currently studying outside of the US
  • Have not pursued or are not currently in a PhD program
  • Be in an undergraduate or master’s program with a focus on chemistry or a related field (e.g. physics, biology, engineering, computer science, etc.)
  • Plan to do a PhD in chemistry in calendar year 2027 (likely fall enrollment starting in August 2027).
