PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2026/27 Details

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is pleased to bring to the notice of the public that the applications for the 2025/2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme(OSS) have commenced.

The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme is strategically designed to cultivate indigenous talent for the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry and has been recently restructured to further promote the domestication of capacity development within Nigeria.

The scheme was developed to offer candidates the opportunity to benefit from a diversified pool of knowledge and the facilities offered by world-class institutions across the globe. Under it, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at partner institutions.

PTDF Scholarship 2026 Requirements

To be eligible for the postgraduate PTDF Scholarship 2026, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Requirements for MSc Candidates:

    • Minimum Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in the first degree.
    • Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
    • Computer literacy and possession of 5 O/level credits, including English and Mathematics.
    • Submission of a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) outlining the proposed study’s relevance to the industry and national development.

  • Requirements for PhD Candidates:

    • Completion of the mandatory NYSC.
    • Computer literacy and possession of 5 O/level credits, including English and Mathematics.
    • Minimum Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree and a good post-graduate degree.
    • Submission of a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Participating Countries for PTDF Overseas Scholarship (Petroleum Technology Development Fund)

Scholarship offerings for MSc & PhD programmes under the restructured scheme are as follows:

  • Fully funded MSc scholarship will be provided in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
  • Fully funded PhD scholarship will be provided in Germany, France & Malaysia.
  • Fully funded PhD scholarship for the United Kingdom will now be offered exclusively as a Split-Site Programme at the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) in collaboration with three partner Universities in the United Kingdom:
    • Robert Gordon University,
    • University of Strathclyde and
    • University of Portsmouth.

Required Documents for PTDF Overseas Scholarship

Applicants for the 2026/27 PTDF Scholarship should scan and attach the following documents to their online application forms:

  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
  • NYSC discharge certificate
  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and corresponding PINs
  • Recent Passport Photograph
  • Local Government Identification Letter
  • Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only)
  • Evidence of membership in professional associations

How To Apply for PTDF Overseas Scholarship 2026 (Petroleum Technology Development Fund)

To submit your application for the PTDF Scholarship 2026/27, follow these steps;

Step 1:

  • Visit URL to create an application account and fill in your details.
  • An email with instructions on how to login and set your password will be sent to the email address you entered.

Step 2: 

  • Log in with your email as username and the password you created following the instructions sent to your email address.

Step 3: 

  • Click the Verify NIN button before you start a new application.

  • For those that are just verifying their NIN, fill in the fields and agree with the terms (charges may apply).

  • If you have tried to verify your NIN and it was not successful, do not try the second time,e as you will be charged twice.

  • Click on the red button with text Click here for all failed NIN verification then enter you payment transaction reference and NIN to complete the verification.

Step 4:

  • You will be required to fill in all fields of biodata and upload all required documents.
  • Please take note of all file formats and uploads. If the file uploaded does not meet the requirement, you will experience an error.

  • Also, you will be required to choose your first, second, or third choice of University and courses.

  • Please note: If your first choice is a German University, you must choose Abuja as your choice for the interview. You are also required to upload your statement of purpose (for MSc applicants)/Research Proposal (For PhD applicants).
