NERC Essay Competition Details

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) invites all eligible students to the 2026 NERC Essay Competition.

Topic: The Role of Renewable Energy in Improving Electricity Supply in Nigeria.

The competition will commence on 18th May 2026 at 6:00 PM and will close on 15th June 2026 at 6:00 PM.

This annual competition is designed to encourage young Nigerians to think critically about energy challenges facing the nation while proposing practical ideas that can contribute to national development.

NERC Essay Competition Benefits

NERC awards attractive rewards for outstanding entries.

Prizes will be awarded to:

  • Top 3 winning students
  • Teachers of winning students
  • Winning schools

In addition, 10 student runners-up will receive consolation prizes.

NERC Essay Competition Requirements

To be eligible for the NERC Essay Competition, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

Entrants Requirements:

  • Students in Senior Secondary School Year Two (SS2)
  • Candidates enrolled in public secondary schools in Nigeria
  • Candidates enrolled in private secondary schools in Nigeria.

Entries Requirements:

  • Be approximately 1,000 words
  • Address the official competition topic clearly
  • Include the student’s full name
  • Include the complete home address
  • Include the complete school address
  • Include email address
  • Include contact phone number
