Maastricht University Netherland Scholarship 2027 Details

The Maastricht University (UM) NL-High Potential Scholarship programme offers 24 full scholarships of € 34,000 (including tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend) each academic year for students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a master’s programme at UM.

The Scholarship programme consists of both the High Potential Scholarship (funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund), and the NL Scholarship, which is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in conjunction with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences.

It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree programme in the Netherlands.

Maastricht University NL Scholarship Benefits

Selected awardees receive a comprehensive financial package that removes financial barriers:

• Living Expenses: A monthly stipend of € 15,925 for 13 months or €30,625 for 25 months.
• Health & Liability Insurance: Provided and arranged by the UM International Services Desk, amounting to €700.
• Visa Application Costs: Amounting to €210, also managed by the UM International Services Desk.
• Tuition Fees: Covered and arranged by the UM International Services Desk.
• Pre-Academic Training Costs: Managed by the UM International Services Desk (at cost).

Maastricht University Netherland Scholarship Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 Maastricht University Netherland Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

• Nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam, with eligibility for a Dutch entry visa and residence permit.
• Absence of dual nationality from an EU/EEA country.
• Application for admission to a participating full-time master’s program at Maastricht University for the academic year 2027-2028.
• Fulfillment of specific admission requirements for the chosen UM master’s program.
• No prior participation in a degree-seeking higher education program in the Netherlands (exchange programs excluded).
• Age not exceeding 35 years as of September 1, 2027.
• Excellent academic performance, demonstrated by the latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence.

• Proof of Academic Excellence: Either a university transcript stating the grade point average or a letter from the Head of Department or Registrar confirming a top 20 ranking.
• Personal Statement of Financial Needs: Detailing reasons for benefiting from the scholarship and explaining personal circumstances.
• Reference Letter: Following the provided guidelines, dated and written by (former) professors, lecturers, or employers.
• Contact Details of One Referee: Ensuring authenticity by providing relationship details, work telephone number, and work or institutional email address.

• Once you have submitted your application via Studielink, you will receive a student ID number for UM. You will need a student number in order to complete and submit the Scholarship Application Form (see Step 2 below).
• Step 2: Please fill in the application form, you need to log in with your UM account
