Maastricht University NL Scholarship Details
The Maastricht University (UM) NL-High Potential Scholarship programme offers 24 full scholarships of € 34,000 (including tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend) each academic year for students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a master’s programme at UM.
The Scholarship programme consists of both the High Potential Scholarship (funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund), and the NL Scholarship, which is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in conjunction with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences.
It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree programme in the Netherlands.

To be eligible for the 2025 Maastricht University NL High Potential Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam, with eligibility for a Dutch entry visa and residence permit.
Absence of dual nationality from an EU/EEA country.
Application for admission to a participating full-time master’s program at Maastricht University for the academic year 2024-2025.
Fulfillment of specific admission requirements for the chosen UM master’s program.
No prior participation in a degree-seeking higher education program in the Netherlands (exchange programs excluded).
Age not exceeding 35 years as of September 1, 2025.
Excellent academic performance, demonstrated by the latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence.

For the 2025/26 academic session, the Maastricht University Scholarship will accept applications to eligible full-time master’s programs at Maastricht University for the academic year 2025-2026.
Maastricht University NL Scholarship Benefits and Timeline
For the successful candidates, the 2025 Maastricht University Scholarship encompasses:
Living Expenses: A monthly stipend of € 15,925 for 13 months or €30,625 for 25 months.
Health & Liability Insurance: Provided and arranged by the UM International Services Desk, amounting to €700.
Visa Application Costs: Amounting to €210, also managed by the UM International Services Desk.
Tuition Fees: Covered and arranged by the UM International Services Desk.
Pre-Academic Training Costs: Managed by the UM International Services Desk (at cost).

Proof of Academic Excellence: Either a university transcript stating the grade point average or a letter from the Head of Department or Registrar confirming a top 20 ranking.

Once you have submitted your application via Studielink, you will receive a student ID number for UM. You will need a student number in order to complete and submit the Scholarship Application Form (see Step 2 below).
