Bright Futures Scholarships Requirements
To be eligible for the Florida Government Bright Futures Scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than August 31 after high school graduation.
- Earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Not have been found guilty of, or pled nolo contendere to, a felony charge, unless granted clemency.
- Be accepted by and enrolled in a degree or certificate program at an eligible Florida public or independent postsecondary institution.
- Be enrolled for at least six non-remedial semester credit hours per term.

Specific Requirements for Scholarships:
Florida high school students aspiring for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) or the Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) awards must meet the following initial eligibility requirements:
- Graduate from a Florida public high school or meet specific conditions for non-Florida high school graduates.
- Complete the required high school coursework.
- Achieve the required minimum high school grade point average (GPA).
- Attain the required minimum score on the ACT, CLT, or SAT college entrance exam.
- Complete the required number of volunteer service or paid work hours.

Bright Futures Scholarships Benefits and Timeline
Benefits of the Award:
- Florida Academic Scholars (FAS): Covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees for public postsecondary institutions. Also applicable for nonpublic institutions with a comparable amount.
- Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS): Covers 75% of tuition and applicable fees for public postsecondary institutions. Nonpublic institutions receive a comparable amount.
- FMS students enrolled in an associate degree program at a Florida College System institution will receive an award covering 100% of tuition and applicable fees.
Duration of the Award:
A Florida Academic Scholar (FAS) or Florida Medallion Scholar (FMS) may receive funding for up to five years from high school graduation, with a maximum of 120 semester hours (or equivalent) toward the completion of a certificate or a first baccalaureate degree.
