Applications are open for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Mechatronic Engineering (EU4M) for the 2027–2029 academic intake.

The European Masters in Mechatronic Engineering Scholarship offers graduates the opportunity to study mechatronics at participating European universities, with Erasmus Mundus scholarships available to eligible candidates.

The programme brings together universities in Spain, Germany, France and Sweden. Selected full-scholarship recipients can receive tuition and other eligible participation costs, together with a monthly allowance of €1,400 for up to 24 months to contribute towards travel, installation and living expenses.

The scholarship application deadline is January 15, 2027. Applicants who intend to apply for funding should review the official requirements and submit their applications through the programme’s application system.

In this post, we will explain what the scholarship is all about, talk about the eligibility, the benefits, and how interested and qualified candidates can submit their applications.

Scholarship Host: European Union
Host Countries: Spain, Germany, France, and Sweden
Benefits: Full Scholarship • €1400 Monthly Stipend • Travel Costs
Eligibility: Students from 190+ Countries Worldwide
Deadline: January 15, 2027

Applications are open for the EU4M European Masters in Mechatronic Engineering Scholarship, with scholarships available for the 2027–2029 intake and study routes across Spain, Germany, France and Sweden.

The EU4M programme is the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Mechatronic Engineering, a multidisciplinary field that combines mechanical engineering, electronics, control systems and computing.

Mechatronics is relevant to technologies such as industrial automation, robotics, intelligent manufacturing, embedded systems, and advanced machinery.

The EU4M programme gives students the opportunity to study in an international academic environment while developing specialist engineering knowledge.

1. Monthly Allowance of €1,400

Eligible recipients of the full Erasmus Mundus scholarship receive a monthly allowance of €1,400 for the duration of the programme, up to 24 months.

This allowance is intended to contribute towards travel, installation and subsistence expenses. Recipients should still plan their finances carefully because actual living costs vary between European cities.

The €1,400 monthly allowance should not be assumed to apply to every EU4M admission offer. The programme also describes fee-waiver scholarships that cover tuition but do not provide the same monthly living allowance.

2. Tuition Fee Coverage

Full Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients have their programme participation costs covered under the applicable scholarship terms. The official EU4M scholarship information states that this includes tuition fees, full insurance coverage, and other mandatory costs related to participation.

The programme also offers fee-waiver scholarships that cover participation costs, while recipients must fund their other expenses themselves.

3. International Study Experience

EU4M provides an opportunity to study at participating institutions in different European countries. This international experience can expose students to different academic approaches, engineering environments, and research perspectives.

The exact mobility route is determined by the programme’s study structure and the student’s approved pathway.

4. Advanced Engineering Education

The programme focuses on mechatronic engineering and related technical disciplines. It can be relevant to graduates interested in automation, robotics, control engineering, mechanical systems, electronics, and industrial technology.

Students should review the curriculum and individual admission requirements to ensure that their academic background matches the programme.

5. Professional and Research Development

The master’s programme can help students strengthen their technical knowledge, research skills and ability to work in international teams. Depending on their interests and future plans, these skills may support careers in engineering, research, industrial automation and related technology sectors.

To be considered for the 2027 Erasmus Mundus EU4M Scholarship award, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

1. Academic Qualifications

Applicants generally need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate engineering or closely related technical field.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Mechatronics engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Electrical or electronics engineering
  • Automation and control engineering
  • Robotics or related engineering disciplines

The programme’s admissions team determines whether an applicant’s degree satisfies the academic requirements. Applicants should consult the official admissions information if their qualification has a different title or structure.

Students in the final year of their undergraduate degree may also apply for conditional admission. They must provide the required evidence of current enrolment and expected graduation, and meet the programme’s graduation requirements before enrolment.

2. Nationality

The EU4M programme welcomes both European and non-European applicants.

Nigerian students and other international candidates can therefore consider applying, provided they satisfy the academic, language and other admission requirements.

However, applicants should distinguish between eligibility for admission and eligibility for a particular scholarship. Funding is competitive, and selection is not guaranteed.

3. Language Requirements

One important feature of EU4M is that it is not taught entirely in English. Teaching languages vary by institution.

The programme’s published guidance generally requires applicants to demonstrate at least B1 proficiency in the teaching language of their first-year institution, with B2 recommended, and at least A2 proficiency in the teaching language of their second-year institution.

The principal teaching languages are:

  • Spanish at Universidad de Oviedo
  • German at Hochschule Karlsruhe
  • French at SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM
  • English at Högskolan i Skövde

Applicants should check the language requirements for their proposed mobility route and confirm which certificates or other evidence are accepted.

4. Academic Performance and Other Merits

The selection process considers academic background, language skills and other relevant merits. The programme’s published guidance identifies factors such as academic qualifications and grades, related courses, motivation, work experience and reference letters.

Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee selection for a scholarship. Applicants should present their academic achievements and relevant experience clearly.

5. Previous Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

According to the programme’s published guidance, students who have already received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship or a qualifying earlier Erasmus Mundus Master Course/Joint Doctorate scholarship are not eligible for another scholarship under the same funding action.

Applicants with previous Erasmus Mundus funding should check the official terms before applying.

The consortium includes four participating institutions:

  • Universidad de Oviedo, Spain
  • Hochschule Karlsruhe, Germany
  • SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM, France
  • Högskolan i Skövde, Sweden

Students follow an approved mobility pathway involving partner institutions. The precise study route depends on the programme structure and the institutions selected for the student’s pathway.
