DAAD Study Scholarship in Architecture Details

This scholarship programme offers you the opportunity to continue your education in Germany with a postgraduate or continuing course of study in the field of architecture. The scholarships also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.

You can apply if you have gained a first university degree in the areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Monument Conservation and Building in Existing Contexts/Reconditioning of Old Buildings, Urban Design/Urban Development, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.

In this study programme, you can complete

  • a Master’s degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification
    or
  • a complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification (not an undergraduate course)

at a state or state-recognised German university of your choice.

DAAD Study Scholarship 2026 Benefits

The DAAD Study Scholarship offers the following benefits;

  • A monthly payment of 992 euros
  • Travel allowance
  • One-off study allowance
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Under certain circumstances, you can apply for the following additional benefits after start of funding:
    • Monthly rent subsidy 
    • Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family.
    • Payment of course fees for an online language course after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter
    • Green Mobility Top Up (Support for climate-friendly travel) or reimbursement of carbon offset payments for air travel

Eligible Programmes for DAAD Study Scholarship in Architecture

You can apply if you have gained a first university degree in the following areas:

  • Architecture
  • Interior Design
  • Monument Conservation and Building in Existing Contexts/Reconditioning of Old Buildings
  • Urban Design/Urban Development
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Landscape Planning 

DAAD Study Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the DAAD Study Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • hold a B.S. degree in  Architecture, Interior Design, Monument Conservation and Building in Existing Contexts/Reconditioning of Old Buildings, Urban Design/Urban Development, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning 
  • clearly show motivation and strong commitment;
  • have thorough knowledge of the language of instruction;
  • Have a minimum number of CP (credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System/ECTS) for the area of Design/Projects:
    • 120 CP at least 45 CP
    • 90 CP at least 34 CP
    • 60 CP at least 23 CP

DAAD Study Scholarship in Architecture 2026 Required Documents

While applying for the DAAD Study Scholarship in Architecture 2026, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • DAAD application form duly filled in (available in the DAAD-Portal)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate including the final grade
  • Transcripts for all semesters of the Bachelor’s degree programme (if possible)
  • Motivation letter (DAAD form) [docx-file] explaining:
    • previous academic career (including a listing of universities and study programmes attended);
    • motivation for the application.
  • Copy of the passport
  • If available, letter of acceptance from the host university in Germany.
    If you have not yet received notification of admission at the time of application, you must submit this before the funding period begins.
