Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship Details

The Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship is offered to master’s, PhD, and medical students, as well as for student teachers, and educators to pursue international research projects, internships, and more, providing additional funding for international placements to enhance their study programs.

In line with the foundation’s  commitment to gender equality in science,  applications are strongly encourage  from women, individuals from low- & middle-income countries, parents with caring responsibilities for children, and individuals working within Germany with German as a second language.

Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship Benefits

Fellows of Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship 2926 will receive  up to 10.000 € funding and can undertake fellowships for up to six months.

The fellowship can be used for research projects, internships and more.

Available Programmes for Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship

The Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship will accept applications to the following programmes;

  • Fellowship in Drug Discovery Sciences : For master or PhD students from all scientific disciplines including pharmacy and data science, with fundamental or applied studies with relevance to the pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare (over-the-counter) industries.
  • Fellowship for Agricultural Science: For master or PhD students from all scientific disciplines including data science, with fundamental or applied studies with relevance to the Crop Science industry.
  • Fellowship for Medical Sciences: For all students of human & veterinary medicine, or master and PhD students in medical engineering, applied medical sciences, data science in medicine and public health.
  • Fellowship for Climate & Health:

    For students in the fields of human or veterinary medicine, or master and PhD students in natural sciences, pharmacy, public health, or epidemiology with relevance to the impact of climate change on health, with a focus on:

    • The health of women and other vulnerable populations  
    • Cardio-Renal Health  
    • Neglected Tropical Diseases  
    • Respiratory Health 

Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship Requirements

To be eligible for the Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Currently studying a MSc, PhD, medical degree or equivalent.

  • Bachelor students and postdoctoral researchers are not eligible.

  • Students who will have completed their doctoral studies (defense of thesis) prior to the conclusion of the proposed fellowship are also not eligible.

  • Very good to excellent bachelor and/or master studies in a scientific discipline or very good to excellent medicals studies up to the current date

  • Students who are enrolled outside of Germany must undertake placement within Germany.
  • Students who are enrolled at a German university must undertake placements outside of
    Germany.
  • Fellowships cannot be undertaken at commercial organizations (i.e. in industry)

Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship Required Documents

While applying for the Bayer Foundation Scientific Fellowship, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • Personal statement of your motivation for the application, including 3 keywords describing yourself
  • Project proposal, including five keywords associated with your project
  • Description of the potential relevance and impact of your fellowship/project
  • When applicable, a description of the collaborative and/or interdisciplinary nature of your fellowship/project
  • Proposed budget of your fellowship/project
  • If relevant, a detailed justification of requests for exceptional costs
  • If relevant, an explanation of additional funding
  • If relevant, provide a detailed explanation of the request for additional funding for care responsibilities.
  • If available a listing of Prizes, posters, presentations or other recognitions of and /or Publications  
  • One letter of support/ acceptance from your self-selected host institute
  • Two letters of recommendation (including one from a current and/or previous direct supervisor at your home institute)
  • Certificates
  • Transcripts
  • 1 minute video   
  • If relevant, one acceptance letter of your next studies
