University of Arkansas Monticello Graduate Scholarship 2026 in Wildlife Research Details
The Snowden Waterfowl Center of Excellence is recruiting a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to conduct research on the migration ecology of Green-Winged Teal, one of the most harvested dabbling duck species in North America.
The research project focuses on:
- Migration timing and seasonal movement patterns
- Habitat selection during migration stopovers
- Breeding settlement patterns
- Winter habitat fidelity and annual migration cycles
The study will involve tracking transmitter-marked female Green-Winged Teal in the Red River Valley region of Louisiana and Arkansas.
Specific aspects of the study could include spring migration chronology and stop-over habitat selection, breeding settlement patterns, and winter site fidelity of transmitter-marked female green-winged teal that winter in the Red River Valley region of NW Louisiana and SW Arkansas.
The position carries an annual stipend of $20,000 plus tuition waiver. Expected start date of May or August 2026.
The programme is a three year study and will be ending between 12/29/2028 and 8/10/2029.

University of Arkansas Monticello Graduate Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the University of Arkansas Monticello Graduate Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following or related fields:
- Wildlife Management or Conservation
- Zoology
- Geography
- Geospatial Sciences
- Environmental or Natural Resource Studies
Minimum academic requirement:
- 2.7 overall GPA, OR
- 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credit hours
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with GIS or remote sensing
- Data science or ecological modeling skills
- Background knowledge in waterfowl or landscape ecology
- Ability to conduct field research in outdoor environments
Applicants must also:
- Possess or obtain a valid U.S. driver’s license within 60 days of employment
- Be willing to conduct fieldwork during fall and winter seasons
- Be capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions
