University of Vechta Scholarship 2027 Details
The University of Vechta is inviting applications for up to three PhD scholarships under its doctoral college, “Justice Dimensions of Sustainability-Oriented Transformation Processes in Rural Areas” (PK 060).
The doctoral college is affiliated with the Vechta Institute of Sustainability Transformation in Rural Areas (VISTRA) and is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation.
The programme focuses on an increasingly important question: how can sustainability-oriented transformations be made socially just, particularly in rural areas?
Applicants are expected to develop research projects examining the social, economic, ethical, spatial or political dimensions of sustainability transformations. Both qualitative and quantitative research approaches are welcome, while quantitative and mixed-methods proposals are explicitly encouraged.
Up to three PhD scholarships will be awarded, with fellowships beginning between June and September 2027.

Selected awardees receive a comprehensive financial package that removes financial barriers:
- €1,650 monthly stipend, consisting of a €1,550 basic scholarship and a €100 research allowance.

To be considered for the 2027 University of Vechta Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
- You must hold an above-average university degree that qualifies you for doctoral studies (such as a Master’s degree, Magister, or a foreign equivalent recognized as comparable).
- Your academic background should be in a field relevant to the program, including Sustainability Science, Human Geography, Social Sciences, Applied Ethics, Economics, Psychology, or closely related interdisciplinary fields
- Have a minimum C1 level in English or B2 level in German (dissertation can be in English).
