Maritime Trainee is one of Norway’s leading management trainee programmes, combining hands-on experience in a world-leading maritime company with an international academic programme. Over 18 months, trainees build industry insight, leadership skills and a strong professional network across the global maritime sector.

BW LNG is looking for a highly motivated trainee to join our commercial operations team and support our fleet expansion and continued growth. Through the Maritime Trainee programme, organised by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, you will combine work in BW with five academic modules planned for Norway, Singapore and London.

You will gain exposure to commercial, financial, legal and technical matters across BW LNG, with potential opportunities to spend time in Singapore and join one of our LNG carriers for a shorter sailing period, offering you an outstanding way to start your career. After the trainee period, there may be opportunities within one of BW Group’s business segments, depending on your interests and business needs.

To be considered for the BW LNG Maritime Trainee, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Currently in your 5th year of study undergoing a master’s degree in either Marine Technical Operations / Engineering, Maritime Management or other technical, shipping-related studies
  • Previous internships within the shipping industry is an advantage
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • High motivation and drive with a flexible attitude
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of market dynamics
  • Structured and well-organised
  • Proven ability to work independently, but with solid teamwork skills
  • Strong analytical and reasoning ability
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with cultural awareness

  • Rotate across BW LNG’s commercial, operations and technical functions to build a broad understanding of the LNG shipping and FSRU business, with your track shaped by your interests and business needs as the programme progresses
  • The position will be part of the commercial operations team in BW LNG, contributing to commercial operations activities and long-term contract management.
  • Conduct analysis on the LNG shipping and FSRU sectors to support decision making across teams.
  • Prepare presentations, proposals and other material to support bids, negotiations and decision making
  • Be involved in LNG vessel operations and coordinate accordingly with Charterers and fleet technical organization as required
  • Liaise with Charterers, agents, technical managers and other stakeholders as relevant to your placement
  • Analyze vessel voyage and operational performance to highlight underperformance, downtime or any other issues.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects spanning commercial, operations, legal, financial and technical matters
