University of Leeds PhD Excellence Scholarship Details

Leeds University Business School is investing in research excellence with 2 PhD Excellence Scholarships within our Marketing Department, providing full fees with a maintenance allowance that matches UKRI rates (currently £21,805 in 2026/27) which rises annually in line with UKRI rates for 3.5 years. This scholarship opportunity is open to UK/international applicants. 

Leeds University Business School invites applications from prospective postgraduate researchers who wish to commence study for a PhD in the academic year 2026/27 across the Leeds University Business School.

These awards are open to full-time or part-time candidates (UK only) who have been offered a place on a PhD degree at Leeds University Business School in the Department of Marketing.

University of Leeds Excellence Scholarship 2027 Benefits

The University of Leeds Excellence Scholarship offers the following benefits;

  • The award provides full academic fees and a maintenance grant (£21,805 in Session 2026/27) for full-time study, part-time will be pro-rata. This amount increases per annum in line with the UKRI rate.  Full-time awards provide full fees for 3 years and a maintenance award for 3.5 years (Part-time awards are pro-rata). 

University of Leeds PhD Excellence Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the University of Leeds PhD Excellence Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Applications are open to either International or UK Fee rated applicants.
  • Candidates who have previously been awarded a PhD or are currently registered on a PhD are excluded from applying. Those who were previously studying for a PhD but did not complete may be considered.  
  • Award must be taken up by 1st February 2027.
  • Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this scholarship.
  • Applicants to research degree programmes should normally have a first class or an upper second class British Bachelors Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English-language requirements which  is an IELTS of 6.5 overall with at least 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in other components (reading, listening and speaking) or equivalent.
  • The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid.

  • If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you meet the University’s minimum English language requirements
