Applications are invited from qualified PhD and MSc students for Research Assistantship positions at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Project Title: Not Enough and Too Many: Professional Personhood among Africa’s Paradoxically Surplus Health Workers

The research team invites applications from highly motivated postgraduate students for two Research Assistantship positions. The successful candidate will support an ongoing international research project examining the paradox of health workforce shortages in government hospitals amid an ironic ‘surplus’.

The project is deploying a mixed-methods approach to explore the socio-cultural and political-economic dimensions of this paradox in Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia.

  • Research Assistant (doctoral student) – one position
  • Research Assistant (master’s student) – one position.

University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

PhD

  • be a prospective student or be currently enrolled in Medical Anthropology, Sociology, Demography, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Systems, Development Systems, or a related discipline,
  • Demonstrate interests in health systems, health workforce research, labour studies, sociology of professions, or related disciplines.
  • Have experience in qualitative research methods.
  • Have experience with Vivo, Atlas.ti, SPSS, Stata or other analytical software.
  • Masters
  • be a prospective student or be currently enrolled in Medical Anthropology, Sociology, Demography, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Systems, Development Systems, or a related discipline,
  • be interested in health systems and workforce research.
  • Demonstrate  research  skills and the willingness to learn
  • Show good communication and organizational skills.
  • Have experience in research data collection and analysis
