University of Guelph Arrell Scholarship Details

The University of Guelph in Canada is currently accepting applications for the 2026 Arrell Scholarships from emerging scholars who are not only academically outstanding but also passionately committed.

The Arrell Scholarship is aimed at to ensuring that future generations are well fed, that diets are nutritious and equitable, and that agriculture is sustainable.

As a complement to their graduate research, successful applicants will provide leadership within multi-disciplinary teams of graduate students, who will work with the community, government, and industry partners, and the University of Guelph experts linked to the Arrell Food Institute, to address global food issues.

Available Programmes for Arrell Scholarships 2026

For the 2026/27 academic session, the University of Guelph will accept applications to candidates applying to the graduate program at the University of Guelph with a plan of research that is compatible with the Arrell Food Institute’s vision (e.g. food security, plant science, consumer behaviour, diet and nutrition, etc.). 

University of Guelph Arrell Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the University of Guelph Arrell Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Be entering a Master’s program in the Fall semester
  • Have a minimum first-class (A-) admissions average
  • Have a research interest that aligns with the mission of the Arrell Food Institute, which is to produce more healthy and nutritious food, grow the economy, and reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of our agri-food system.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the University of Guelph.

Selection Criteria

The scholarships will be awarded following a selection process through which all application files will be screened and then reviewed by a scholarship selection committee based upon:

  • Outstanding academic achievement;
  • Relevance of proposed research and personal motivation to the vision of the Arrell Food Institute;
  • Demonstration of commitment to public engagement, as evidenced in the CV; and an
  • Interview with the scholarship selection committee for those applicants that are short-listed.

Required Documents for University of Guelph Scholarship 2026

While applying for the University of Guelph Scholarship, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • a statement of research interests and personal motivations (maximum 2 pages, references not included);
  • a current CV;
  • a letter of support from a prospective University of Guelph faculty advisor, which also confirms that the applicant will be accepted into a graduate program.

    • Applicants are advised to seek support from a prospective University of Guelph faculty advisor prior to beginning the application process. 
    • The online Arrell Scholarship application will automatically send an email to your prospective advisor requesting their response.
    • Please confirm with your prospective advisor that they have received the email and advise them of the response deadline (listed above).

To apply for the University of Guelph Arrell Scholarship, follow the instructions we have outlined below;

  • The graduate program application must be fully completed by the deadline to be eligible for consideration, including all required supporting documents. 
  • Submit a complete Arrell Scholarship Application by the deadline. 
  • You will receive a confirmation email for this step after your Prospective Advisor submits their response.
