The top most sought-after universities in Nigeria have been ranked according to the choices of aspirants who sat the UTME in May 2023.
The ranking was disclosed by the JAMB registrar on Saturday 24th June, 2023 by Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB’s registrar at the board’s policy meeting held in Abuja.
According to Oloyede, the University of Ilorin retained its position as the institution with the highest of aspirants followed by the University of Lagos.
The popular University of Ilorin, Unilorin, who has recently released her admission list has over the last decade been the most sought-after university in Nigeria owing to their high umber of admitted students and non-participation in ASUU national strikes and internal industrial actions.
Lagos State University, LASU, got the third position in this list, with Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, taking fourth place. The recognition of these institutions can be attributed to their high admission quota and their commitment to providing quality education in Nigeria.
FUOYE is known for their considerable low minimum cut-off mark (minimum of 180), while LASU has proven that an academic session can be completed in nine months by noy joining the last eight-month ASUU strike.
The rankings may impact prospective students’ decisions in succeeding application years, increasing rivalry for admission to certain institutions. To fulfill these expanding expectations and maintain their positions as top-choice schools, the listed universities will need to continue investing in their infrastructure, faculties, and learning resources.
To summarise, as the fight for high-quality postsecondary education in Nigeria continues, it is apparent that these top ten institutions are in the vanguard. They serve as a light of hope for Nigerian students and set the standard for educational achievement in the country.
