The University of Otago International Excellence Scholarships welcome, support and recognise the very best international students commencing selected postgraduate programmes.

These merit-based scholarships recognise academic excellence, diversity, and leadership potential in supporting high-achieving students in their studies.

The University of Otago Scholarship provides funding to support postgraduate students studying at the University of Otago.

The Scholarship is available to both domestic and international students. Candidates for masters, professional doctorates, as well as the PhD, are welcome to apply.

University of Otago International Scholarship Benefits

The University of Otago International Scholarship offers the following benefits;

Doctor of Philosophy – NZ$34,128 stipend per annum plus a domestic tuition fees waiver for 36 months (excludes student services fee and insurance)
Professional Doctorates (DClinDent, DMA, DBA, EDd) – NZ$34,128 stipend per annum plus a tuition fee waiver for up to 36 months capped at the domestic rate (excludes student services fee and insurance).
Masters: NZ$18,204 stipend per annum plus a tuition fee waiver for 1 year capped at NZ$35,000 for Master’s study (excludes student services fee and insurance)

To be eligible for the University of Otago International Research Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

Masters

Be applying for their first Master’s degree.
Enroll in a thesis-based Master’s program.
Demonstrate excellent academic performance.
Meet the admission requirements of the University of Otago.
Be domestic or international students.

Doctoral
- Be applying for their first doctoral degree.
- Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and research potential.
- Meet the admission requirements for a PhD program.
- Be domestic or international students.
