The ESI Undergraduate Research Grant is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to support and promote scientific research among undergraduate students in Nigerian universities.
Under this program, eligible students engaged in their undergraduate research projects in any science program at a Nigerian University can apply for a grant of up to ₦100,000.
The Encourage Science Initiative Research grant is specifically designated to cover part of the consumables budget for the awardees’ research projects.

Requirements for ESI Undergraduate Research Grant
To meet for the ESI Research Grant requirements, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate Status: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a Nigerian University.
- Final Year: Must be in the final year of their undergraduate studies.
- Research Project Timeline: Should have commenced or be planning to start their undergraduate research project between September 2025 and February 2026
- Science Program: Must be studying a biological or physical science course.
- Personal Statement: Provide a personal statement (maximum 200 words) explaining why the applicant deserves the grant and a detailed breakdown of how they intend to spend the grant money (not exceeding #100,000).
- Supervisor’s Support: Must submit a supporting statement from their research supervisor (maximum 200 words).
