Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship for Africans 2026 Details

Makerere University is pleased to announce the second Cohort of Undergraduate and Master’s scholarship opportunities for students joining Makerere University main campus in the Academic Year 2025/2026. 

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University will provide 1000 scholarships for 10 years at both the undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) and graduate levels at the main campus.

The Makerere University Mastercard Scholarships are awarded to academically talented young men and women from Sub-Saharan Africa experiencing financial hardship to pursue university education.

Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship in Uganda 2026 Benefits

The Mastercard Scholarship offers the following to its beneficiaries;

  • Full tuition fees
  • Accommodation in a UP residence
  • Meals
  • Books and printed material
  • A modest monthly stipend
  • Medical aid
  • Travel costs (one return trip for the duration of the study period)
  • Cost of one visa application for the duration of the study period.

Available Programmes for Mastercard Scholarship at Makerere University

For the 2025/26 academic session, the MMastercard Scholarship at Makerere University are awarded for courses ranging from the College of arts, environmental sciences, natural sciences, law, health sciences, social sciences, to engineering.

Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the undergraduate and postgraduate Makerere University Mastercard Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus for the academic year 2025/2026.

  • must have either;

    • Completed their advanced secondary level education/undergraduate in an African country or

    • Hold second class/credit diploma from any recognized institution or

    • Must have passed the mature age entry of Makerere University 

  • should be experiencing financial hardships.

  • should not be a holder of any other scholarship, including the Government of Uganda Scholarship.

  • should not have completed any undergraduate or postgraduate degree Programme.

  • should have demonstrated leadership potential and/or community service.

  • should be 28 years old or younger (35 years for Masters applicants) at the time of the application deadline.

Required Documents for Makerere University Mastercard Foundation Scholarship

While applying for the Makerere University Mastercard Foundation Scholarship, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • Application Form 
  • Passport Photo
  • A copy of your identity document
  • A certified photocopy of the Undergraduate Degree certificate or transcript (Master’s)
  • Recognitions for leadership engagements (if applicable)
  • Recognitions for Community Service (if applicable)
  • A certified photocopy of the A Level and O Level results
  • A photocopy of the National Identification/Passport
  • A motivation Statement for Master’s Studies (Max. 500 words)
  • Hand-drawn map with clear directions to the Applicant’s residence/home
