Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship Details

MARIHE is a unique global Master program on higher education, research and innovation. It is a 2-year full time study journey in Europe and Asia – a truly international experience. MARIHE offers several Erasmus Mundus scholarships, including full tuition waivers, ensuring that talent—not geography or financial background—defines opportunity.

MARIHE is jointly conducted by an international consortium with partners from Austria, China, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, and Portugal, thus providing a comprehensive expert perspective on higher education, research and innovation.

Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship Benefits

The Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship offers the following benefits;

  • Participation costs/tuition fees are covered
  • Includes a worldwide health and accident insurance
  • Erasmus+ Student Mobility funding might be available
  • Additional scholarship option for students from deprived backgrounds and/or first-in-family students (awarded by the consortium; for two selected students per intake)
  • EUR 1,400 monthly allowance as a contribution to travel, visa, installation, and subsistence costs

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Must hold a first university degree (e.g., Bachelor’s).
  • Must show a strong motivation and interest in the field of development and management of research and innovation in higher education.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of English for academic purposes, proven by an accepted test certificate.
  • Accepted Tests (Minimum Scores):
    • TOEFL iBT (completed before 21 Jan. 2026) with a minimum overall score of 92, with no individual score below 20
    • TOEFL iBT (completed on or after 21 Jan. 2026) with a minimum overall score of 4.5, with no individual score below 4
    • IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 6.5, with no individual score below 5.5
    • PTE Academic with a minimum score of 62
    • Cambridge C1 Advanced with minimum grade C
    • Cambridge C2 Proficiency with minimum grade C1
  • You may be exempt from the English Language Test if you completed one of the following in English and resided in the country while studying:
    • Any EU/EEA country, Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Dominica, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
    • Important: Completing previous studies in English does not automatically exempt you from the requirement to submit an English language test certificate! If your degree was taught in English but was not obtained in one of the listed countries, you are still required to provide a valid English test certificate! Due to national laws and the regulations of the MARIHE partner institutions, we cannot make any exceptions or consider individual circumstances.
  • Upper secondary education completed in English in a secondary school in one of the following countries:
    • Any EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK, USA.
    • A student exchange semester or year is no case for exemption.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2026 Required Documents

While applying for the MAHIRE Scholarship 2027, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • Application Form
  • Copy of passport / personal identification card
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) (Europass format)
  • Letter of Motivation (LoM)
  • University diplomas/degree certificates
  • Transcripts of records
  • Proof of proficiency in the English language (Certificate or Exemption Proof)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Essay
