DAAD PhD Scholarship Details
For 100 years, the DAAD has been promoting international academic exchange, creating perspectives, connecting worlds and fostering innovation. It offered various scholarship across all academics levels.
The doctoral scholarship programme offers you the opportunity to complete your doctoral degree in Germany. The scholarships are funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
You can apply if you have above-average qualifications and you completed your Master’s degree or Diplom, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree, at the latest by the time the funding period begins.
DAAD Doctoral Scholarship Program 2027 Benefits
The DAAD Doctoral Scholarship Program offers the following benefits for a maximum of four years;
- Monthly payments of 1,400 euros
- Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
- Travel allowance
- annual research allowance of € 4600
- monthly rent subsidy
- monthly allowance for accompanying family members
Eligible Programmes for DAAD PhD Scholarship
The DAAD PhD scholarship is offered for all relevant field of studies.
DAAD PhD Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the DAAD PhD Scholarship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- not have graduated any longer than six years before the application deadline
- If you have already started your doctorate, it also applies that the start of the doctorate should not be longer than 3 years ago.
- Your application cannot be considered, if you have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline.
- A Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree of 2nd class upper division level and a Master of Arts/Master of Science degree are required
- Good German language skills – especially for students taking arts subjects – are usually a requirement for study and research projects in Germany. Exceptions are possible if the project is carried out in English.
- A prior language course of 4 to 6 months is generally included in the scholarship

- Full curriculum vitae in tabular form (max. 3 pages) in Europass CV Format
- List of publications (10 pages max).
- Letter of motivation (1-2 pages).
- Research proposal
- Schedule for planned research work.
- Letter of admission to a study program.
- All degree certificate and transcripts.
- Supporting letter of recommendation.
- Proof of English Language Skills.
