Critical AI Policy Virtual Fellowship 2026 Details
The Critical AI Policy Virtual Fellowship 2026 is a non-residential, online fellowship designed for researchers working on critical approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) policy and intervention.
It is being hosted collaboratively by the Digital Society Research Cluster at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and the Center for Digital Ethics & Policy at Loyola University Chicago in the US.
The fellowship enables participants to work remotely on their research, contribute to a joint DISC/CDEP Policy Report on Generative AI, and take part in online events and workshops.
Over approximately four months (April–July 2026), fellows will engage with other participants through synchronous and asynchronous activities, present their work, and attend the Digital Ethics & Policymaking Summer School in June 2026.

Critical AI Policy Virtual Fellowship 2026 Requirements
To be eligible for the Critical AI Policy Virtual Fellowship 2026, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Open to established academics, doctoral researchers in advanced stages, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career researchers
- Independent scholars and researchers without institutional affiliation are welcome
- Applicants must be working on critical approaches to AI policy or interventions into AI policy
- Research can be at any stage, including literature review, data collection, analysis, or writing
- Must be able to commit approximately one day per week from April to July 2026
- Willingness to present research, attend seminars, and contribute to a joint AI policy report.
