The Mastercard Foundation is dedicated to making quality education accessible to young individuals in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a mission to equip them for dignified and fulfilling employment.

Sciences Po’s Commitment
Since 2017, Sciences Po has been one of the four European universities, along with Oxford, Cambridge, and Edinburgh, partnering with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
This collaboration has already welcomed 138 students from Sub-Saharan Africa, offering them the opportunity to pursue social science degrees at Sciences Po.
The objective is to groom a new generation of change-makers in their home countries.
Sciences Po Mastercard Scholarship Requirements
To be eligible for the undergraduate and graduate Sciences Po Mastercard Scholarship, applicants must:
- be a resident and a graduating high school or bachelor’s student of a country within Sub-Saharan Africa;
- demonstrate financial need equivalent to that of the lowest two quintiles of your country;
- have very strong academic results within your school system;
- have a record of leadership and extracurricular involvement;
- maintain a strong desire to return to Africa to assist and work towards enhanced regional socioeconomic development;
- be graduating from a recognized secondary school or tertiary institutuion, or have completed the necessary academic requirements; and
- satisfy the Sciences Po university requirements.

Mastercard Foundation Scholarships at U of T Benefits and Timeline
The Sciences Po Mastercard Scholarship beneficiaries will receive holistic support which includes:
- Financial Aid: The scholarship provided by the program cover the complete cost of tuition, accommodation, travel expenses, laptop, and living expenses for students studying at Sciences Po in France.
- Specialized Support: Scholars receive personalized support throughout their academic journey, including pre-departure and arrival assistance, a dedicated housing program, and access to a wide range of resources.
- This includes career support, guidance, internships, access to business incubators, and participation in career-focused events.
- Mentoring Program: Sciences Po Alumni’s Africa Division co-runs a mentoring program to further support scholars in their academic and career development.
Required Documents
You will be submitting the following while applying for the 2024 Sciences Po Mastercard Scholarships;
- A completed online application – all applicable sections must be filled out, including contact information, financial information, personal details and responses to essay questions.
- Financial documents – upload a scanned copy of financial documentation.
- Transcript – upload a scanned copy of your secondary school transcript and any other academic information.
- Two references – provide the names and contact details of two individuals who will serve as your referees.
