African Researcher Small Grants Program Details
The African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD), in partnership with the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD), is pleased to invite applications for the eighth edition of the Small Grants Program (SGP VIII), supporting implementation research.
The grant supports African-led research projects that generate evidence to improve NTD service delivery, policy, and decision-making.
The 2026 call specifically targets early-career researchers based in African universities and research institutions. Applicants must demonstrate that their proposed research aligns with their country’s NTD programme and contributes to institutional and individual research capacity development.
African Researcher Small Grants Program Benefits
The African Researcher Small Grants Program offers the following benefits;
- Early-Career grants: USD 30,000 (maximum funding) – 4 Awards
- Mid-Career grants: USD 65,000 (maximum funding) – 2 Awards
- Mentorship from an experienced senior NTD researcher.
- Capacity building in research management and grant administration.

African Researcher Small Grants Program Requirements
To be eligible for the African Researcher Small Grants Program, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Be an early-career African researcher.
- Be based at an African university or research institution.
- Hold a Master’s degree with research experience, or be enrolled in a PhD programme, or have earned a doctoral degree within the last five years, or be a clinician with relevant research experience.
- Not have previously managed a research grant worth USD 100,000 or more as Principal Investigator.
- Not hold the rank of Associate Professor or a higher academic position.
- Have a senior researcher committed to providing mentorship and supervision.
- Submit a proposal aligned with national NTD priorities.
