North Dakota State University Masters Scholarship Details

The School of Natural Resource Sciences at North Dakota State University is seeking a highly motivated Master’s student to investigate how forage production responds to juniper removal in North Dakota’s Badlands.

The research is funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary research team comprising graduate students, a postdoctoral researcher, research specialists, and faculty members.

The student will lead all components of their thesis research and will have flexibility to develop additional research questions. Fieldwork will be conducted throughout the summer near Medora, ND (housing provided for field season). The selected student will be expected to share their findings through extension activities, professional conferences, and peer-reviewed journal articles.

North Dakota State University Graduate Assistantship Requirements

To be eligible for the North Dakota State University Graduate Assistantship, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • have a strong work ethic, valid driver’s license,
  • be able to lift 50 lbs, walk > 2 miles over rough terrain,
  • have a Bachelors degree in a related field. 
  • be regularly interact with ranchers and conservation professionals
  • be able to demonstrate professionalism and excellent communication skills.
  • will have experience with plant ID, vegetation sampling in rangelands, and scientific writing.
  • have evidence of written work may be requested during the interview process.
